Kalaignar TV, the Tamil general entertainment channel backed by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is all set to launch a slew of new shows in the next few weeks.

Speaking to afaqs!, a senior official at Kalaignar TV says, “In the next few days, we will launch as many as four new shows. Besides this, we have decided to extend our popular weekend women-centric show, Azhagia Thamzh Magal beyond its stipulated 74-week run, since it has got a heartening response from the audience. The show, hosted by film actress and activist Rohini, features stories of women in distress and seeks to find a solution for the situation they are in.”

The spokesperson emphasises that the success of the show is encouraging, as it is a private production by K.P. Muthukumar of Sri Venkateswara Telefilms. The novelty of the programme is that the episodes are shot in various towns of Tamil Nadu.

Out of the four new launches, the first show, to be launched on October 31, is a musical talent hunt show, Vanampadi, hosted by playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam. The winner of the show will get the opportunity to sing in a forthcoming big Tamil film. Additionally, celebrities from the Tamil film industry will be seen on the panel of judges. It will be aired on Saturdays at 9:30 pm.

November 2 will see the channel offer its viewers a new daily soap, Thirumangalyam. To cash on the craze for Tamil film actors amongst audiences, the show’s cast has popular artists from Tamil films. The show is slotted at 1:20 pm, from Monday to Friday. It is a love story capturing the life of a young couple, who are pitted against circumstances and rely on faith in their bid to unite.

The channel’s flagship show, Manada …Mayilada, a dance talent hunt, is back with its fourth season. A special episode of the show will be aired on November 1, Sunday.

The GEC will support its fiction and reality line-up with a mix of popular movie titles, including Sivaji, Kuselan, Billa, Bhima and Varanam.
