Sport – Kubica to join Renault in 2010, replaces Alonso

PARIS: Robert Kubica will drive for Formula One team Renault from 2010.

The 24-year-old Polish driver will replace Ferrari-bound Fernando Alonso and partner Romain Grosjean of France.

Terms of the deal and the length of the contract were not released.

Kubica said: “I have a special connection with this team because in 2005 I won the World Series by Renault. This gave me the chance to test with the team … which led to my debut in Formula One.”

Kubica, who has driven for BMW Sauber since 2006, was a contender for last year’s F1 championship.

BMW Sauber announced it was abandoning the sport at the end of the current season.
